Days 1 & 2 (January 3rd and 4th)

So, today was my second day at work.  I have to say life in the semi-real world is a blast.  I do not miss homework even a little bit! Now, onto what I have been up to for the last 2 days.

Day 1) I feel as though I was initiated.  My GPS took me to a rather eclectic part of town taking me right back to my old days at South Side high.  When Alice, what I call the GPS, said I had "arrived" I was staring at an automotive garage.  While I'm sure I could have found some interesting people to talk to, I had to turn around and eventually made it to my first day.  This first day was FULL of phone calling.  TO put on an event of this magnitude, you have to make sure people know about it to order tickets, who knew? So I called a few hundred local businesses to see if they would mind posting some advertising materials around their stores.  Most were fine with it, one even said that when I drop them off, they would gladly share some of their grub with me. :-) The last 2 hours were spent adding the event to various online calendars and postings.

Day 2) My teammate has arrived! Meredith, a fellow DePauwper, arrived as the second intern working on this shindig.  It was fun to have someone else there and she settled into the cubicle next to mine. I spent some time showing her the basics.  Then, it was time to learn how to "mail merge", aka my new favoritest thing ever. This was done to attach to bags of posters and fliers to be assembled tomorrow and distributed to all of those businesses I called yesterday.  These letters were printed and divided by region of the city.  Each of the 140+ locations then had to be individually mapquested to that those wonderful people doing the delivering would know where to go! Believe it or not, this ate up much of the rest of the day, not including a quick lunch break.  Al-in-all, day 2 went much more quickly.  Whether it was because of the company or the gratification of physically having something to show for my work is unclear, but I had fun! I already have a clearer view of what this sort of job entails. It takes a whole lot organizing and planning, but is always changing at the last moment too, (ie, having to get 2 more wineries on board today after a coupld of cancellations and too many open tables).  The challenges are the best parts.

Well, that is it for now.  Look for more updates soon!
